چکیده

The generation process of a double-walled carbon nanotube (DWNT) from a “peapod” was studied by classical molecular dynamics simulation. Starting from a peapod structure, defined by five C60 molecules inside a (10,10) single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT), polymerized fullerenes, a peanut-like structure and an almost nanotube-like structure were obtained under suitable conditions of temperature control. The mean distance between the two layers of the DWNT agreed with an experimental report that it is larger than the interlayer spacing found in multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs). In addition, the chirality dependence of the potential energy of a DWNT on the relative chirality of its constituent tubes was examined using a 6-12 Lennard-Jones potential. It was found that the potential energy depends only on the distance between the two layers, not on the relative chiralities.

Molecular Dynamics Investigation of The Elastic Constants and Moduli of Single Walled Carbon Nanotubes

Determination of the mechanical properties of carbon nanotubes is an essential step in their applications from macroscopic composites to nano-electro-mechanical systems. In this paper we report the results of a series of molecular dynamics simulations carried out to predict the elastic constants, i.e. the elements of the stiffness tensor, and the elastic moduli, namely the Young’s and shear mod...

Modelling and simulation of vibrationnal properties of carbon nanotubes and derivatives

The aim of the present paper is to identify the main Raman vibrational features of carbon nanotubes and derivatives. In this goal, Raman active mode calculations have been performed on different single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNTs) as well as peapods. The comparison between the calculations performed on these different systems allows us to identify...

Nonlocal Flügge shell model for the axial buckling of single-walled Carbon nanotubes: An analytical approach

In this paper, the stability characteristics of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) under the action of axial load are investigated. To this end, a nonlocal Flügge shell model is developed to accommodate the small length scale effects. The analytical Rayleigh-Ritz method with beam functions is applied to the variational statement derived from the Flügge-type buckling equations. Molecular dy...

Studies of electronic distribution in potassium-doped mats of single-walled carbon nanotubes, double-walled carbon nanotubes, and peapods

In this work, we have performed a systematic study of the electrical transport properties both the resistivity and the thermoelectric power on bundles of single-walled carbon nanotubes SWCNTs , double-walled carbon nanotubes DWCNTs , and peapods derived from the same batch of initial SWNTs during in situ doping with potassium donor . The charge transfer effects in K-doping are similar in SWNTs ...
